THIS WEEK’S REVIEW:  “Line of Serenity”

Darriell McKeithen of Florissant, Missouri, says, “I loved this book because it brought back so many wonderful memories of my own childhood which was very similar to the author.  The book was humorous in parts and gave the reader such insight into the lives of a solid African American family who loved and respected each other.  It is timely for such a time as this when so many stereotypes are in print about African American families.  It displayed a hard working set of parents who were determined to raise their children to become solid productive citizens and not rely on welfare programs for their success.  Many other ethnic groups think African Americans are all poor, illiterate, lazy and without fathers or solid male role models.  This book shows without a shadow of doubt how the majority of African American families survived in spite of the climate of racism in the U.S.  It created a warm and proud feeling within me while reading and reminded me to be grateful all over again for the wonderful parents I had. Growing up in the late 40’s and 50’s was truly a wonderful experience and I can only wish that the children of this day and age could be blessed to have the same experiences.  You should encourage Mrs. Fields to write a sequel to this wonderful, uplifting book!”

TODAY’S BLOG

Two Frogs

A group of frogs was traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.  The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might.  The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up.  He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could.  Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die.  He jumped even harder and finally made it out.  When he got out, the other frogs said, “Did you not hear us?” The frog explained to them that he was deaf.  He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

Moral:  There is the power of life and death in the tongue.  An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.  So be careful of what you say.  Speak life to those who cross your path.  The power of words. . .it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way.
