THIS WEEK’S REVIEW:  “My 15 Dogs:  A 55-Year Journey of Love”

Lena Sledge of Madison, Alabama, says, “Wonderfully Inspiring and Entertaining.  This book is a wonderful insight into the relationship that grows out of loving animals, particularly dogs.  I realized from this book, that dogs love without limitations, ultimatums or ulterior motives.  They love their human companions simply because it’s truly in their nature.  This book will make you laugh and make you smile. And you will walk away from reading this book and looking at animals in a totally different light.  I’m better for reading this book and I highly recommend it.  It’s a quick read and well worth every penny.”

My Breast Cancer Journey:  The Week of November 6.  WOW!!!

What a fabulous week!  The week of November 6!!

On Tuesday, November 8, my Medical Oncologist, Dr. Mark McNamara, told me that, after surgery (a lumpectomy) and radiation, I am cancer free!!  He gave me my prescription for Tamoxifen, which I have to take every day for five years.  If I have any pre-cancerous cells in my body, the Tamoxifen will prevent them from dividing, and they will die.

I’ll see Dr. Mac again on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.

On Friday, November 11 (11/11/11, at 11 a.m. [awesome!]), I had my last radiation treatment!!  Oh, happy day!!  But it was bittersweet because, over the seven-week course of radiation therapy, I developed a wonderful relationship with the Radiation Oncology staff at the South Pasadena Cancer Center:  Tessie, the Receptionist; Todd, the Radiation Therapy Chief; Lara, the Registered Nurse; and my two fantastic Radiation Therapists, who administered the treatment every day, Kelly and Cat; and then, there’s Dr. Helen Chen, my Radiation Oncologist.  Dr. Chen is THE BEST.  Perky, positive, professional, and she really knows her stuff!

I’ll see them all again on Wednesday, December 14, for my one-month, follow-up visit with Dr. Chen.

Now, back to my normal life—a life without radiation therapy!

    Congratulations, Joyce!

I’m not sure of what’s appropriate for me to say beyond that, but I admire your perseverance and openness sharing this facet of your life.

    Keep inspiring.
