OUR GOOD, SHORT BOOKS

THIS WEEK’S REVIEW:  “THE VISION:  Telling Kids That They Can Make the World a Better Place”

Keisha L. Glenn, Esq., Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Wayne County, Michigan, says, “The Vision is crafted in such a way that it is the perfect tool for young children to learn about the value of education and for African-American children to briefly witness the struggles of their ancestors in obtaining an education.  The worksheets in the book are a wonderful way to get children to recognize, think about, and discuss the opportunities available to them both educationally and socially.  Having the children create goals and sign contracts is a wonderful idea to stimulate enthusiasm and create a sense of accomplishment.  As a juvenile court prosecutor, I saw first-hand how many kids took for granted the opportunities they had to get an education.  I think every classroom and courtroom dealing with young children should make The Vision required reading.”

WE DON’T “HAVE” A GOOD DAY; WE “MAKE IT” A GOOD DAY.  ~ Joyce Fields

TODAY’S BLOG

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

I THINK THIS IS A GREAT POST FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR, SO I’M LEAVING IT UP FOR TODAY.  IT’S A GOOD TIME TO CONTACT FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES THAT YOU HAVEN’T CONNECTED WITH IN A WHILE!  I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS PIECE.

Around the Corner

~ Author unknown

Around the corner I have a friend
In this great city that has no end,
Yet days go by and weeks rush on
And before you know it the year is gone.

And I never see my old friend’s face
For life is a swift and terrible race,
Yet he knows I like him just as well
As in the days when I rang his bell
And he rang mine.

We were younger then,
Now we are busy tired men,
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.

Tomorrow I’ll say I’ll call on Jim,
Just to show I’m thinking of him,
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And the distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner, yet miles away,
Here’s a telegram, sir; Jim died today.
And that’s what we get, and deserve in the end;
Around the corner a vanished friend.

Moral of the poem:  Call or visit your friends today.  Tomorrow is not promised.
