“PLEASE GOD, AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FALL INTO PLACE”
If lawmakers couldn’t raise a family on $7.25 per hour, how can they expect others to do so? Everyone who works should make enough money to live on. To pay rent, utilities, buy gasoline for their cars, enjoy an occasional night out. If everyone made enough money to live on, and a little extra, THAT would please God and everything else would fall into place.
If you don’t want your voting rights to be messed with, why would you mess with the voting rights of others? Voting is supposed to be the hallmark of a democracy. If everyone has the freedom to vote, and if the roadblocks to voting are removed, THAT would please God and everything else would fall into place.
If you want your children to be well educated, why allow others’ children not to be well educated? We should be outraged when children are not given an opportunity to rise to their highest potential. An educated society helps all of its citizens. We should make educating all of our children one of our highest priorities. THAT would please God and everything else would fall into place.
If we use The Golden Rule as a guide, we will always please God.
Virtually every religion has its own version of The Golden Rule.
Most agnostics (those who are uncertain about the existence of God) and atheists (those who believe there is no God) probably believe in the premise of The Golden Rule, and want others to treat them as they would want to be treated.
Let’s take a look at The Universality of the Golden Rule in the World Religions as adapted from The Christopher Newsletter.
The Universality of the Golden Rule in the World Religions
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
Do not do to others what you would not like yourself. Then there will be no resentment against you, either in the family or in the state.
Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.
This is the sum of duty; do naught onto others what you would not have them do unto you.
Mahabharata 5, 1517
No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself.
What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow men. This is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary.
Regard your neighbor’s gain as your gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss.
Tai Shang Kan Yin P’ien
That nature alone is good which refrains from doing unto another whatsoever is not good for itself.
So, if most of the world’s religions believe in some form of The Golden Rule, then we should all start living The Golden Rule. That would please God, and everything else would fall into place.
If you don’t want it done to you, don’t do it to anyone else. And don’t tolerate someone else doing it. It’s never too late to start treating others as you would want to be treated. We can start in our own homes, families, and communities, and that would spread to cities and towns, states, nations, and the entire world!
That would please God, and everything else would fall into place.
