“A MARRIAGE LICENSE IS NOT A CERTIFICATE OF OWNERSHIP.”

My Simple Quotes - GSB - Amazon(excerpted from “My Simple Quotes to Live By” – available at http://www.amazon.com [available on Kindle, too!] and http://www.GoodShortBooks.com)

“I do.” Two powerful words. But some people (especially women) seem to take those words more seriously than others. They seem to think that now they have “papers” on him, suggesting that he “belongs” to her. That’s not a healthy attitude to have. That’s not an attitude that will ensure a contented marriage.

Being married to the same man for nearly 47 years, I can bear witness to the fact that we are two separate people–I don’t own him, and he does not own me! But we have the same goals for our marriage. That’s what is crucial–having the same goals for your marriage. He is MY man, but I don’t OWN him! You must be clear in that concept.
